We do not approve of the no-pain, no-gain concept. It is not supposed to hurt when you work out. There are thousands of exercise programs out there, and we will present several of them here. Now is a great time to tell you if you have any questions you can send us an email, all are answered within 24 hours. zen@fitness-health.biz
One of the simplest and easiest exercise programs to start is fitness walking. The only equipment you need is comfortable clothing and a good pair of sneakers, the brand is really your choice. I have always preferred a cross-trainer shoe, as I walk quite a bit and want to wear the same shoes to work out.
I was a free-weight (dumbells and barbells) trainer for many years; that option went away when I had carpal-tunnel surgery on both wrists in 2006. After my recovery period I used fitness walking again and worked my way back to resistance training, still no longer using free-weights.
I have maintained chi-gung exercises for well over a decade, including during my surgery recovery time. This program I use daily (seven days per week) and it is a steady part of my morning routine. I never miss this workout (more on chi-gung at a later time).
The walking program can be outdoors (my preference) if you have access to a good place to walk. A park or other natural setting are a good choice, versus walking on or near a busy street which has risk and exposes you to vehicle emissions. How far to walk? How long to walk? How fast to walk and how often? Great questions! Here is a link to a great site about walking; don't forget to come back here after reading it. Power walking
Great, now let's talk about goals. I am an advocate of 'write it down, make it happen.' I've been doing it successfully for decades because it works.
We will expand on this quite a bit when we cover habits and positive Mental Attitude. Your tip for now is that it takes three weeks to learn a new habit.
For now, we get some figures from an online calculator. Use this one to get a baseline for number of calories required daily, depending on your weight goal and amount of exercise you are willing to commit to. Calorie GoalsCome back here when you have your numbers.
> You should now have a desired body weight goal, and some information from the calculators advising how much exercise to be doing;the calorie goal calculator has several choices on exercise amounts. You dial in the level you are prepared to commit to.
If you have already 'outgrown' fitness walking and want to look at workout equipment now, check out Online Sports as they have just about everything under the sun! You will need to search by Sport (physical fitness), then equipment. They literally have thousands of choices, so search away!
